Ever wondered what training to run a marathon and being dyslexic have in common?
Way More than you would think!
In actual fact I think being dyslexic for years and not knowing is possibly my marathon training secret weapon! Here is why…

I have spent so much of my life behind everyone else… desperately trying to keep up and hope I manage to pass and I’ve learnt to just to the best I can at each moment.

When running, I run my own race. I just aim to keep putting one foot in front of another. Winning for me is just completing it!

All through education, and in fact even today, through my continued professional development my best efforts are constantly critiqued and I have to draft, redraft and retake.

When runs go wrong – it is what it is! It’s just a moment in time and the next one will hopefully be better because I’ll build on what Ive learnt.

I have never been standout brilliant at anything – I’ve always had to manage my expectations and know if I have done my best, that’s all that matters.

I’m no elite marathon runner… just someone with a personal goal. To get a PB is brilliant but it won’t define my success.

I’m totally used to no one noticing my effort and being my own cheerleader.

Training to run a marathon is hardcore! You have to be self motivated and run even when you don’t want to.

The way I’m shown things often doesn’t work for me, making my own mistakes and finding my own way through things and learning as I go along is second nature to me.

following a training plan … well it’s there as a guide but I’ll listen to my body and do what’s right for me!

Resilience and determination are skills I have honed over the years. They have got me through the trickiest of times and enabled me to be brave enough to set up my own business!

Resilient – running 4 times a week and keeping going even after a bad run or injury. Determined to achieve the goal in order to raise money to support others.
So, dyslexia for sure has its pitfalls – and it’s made my life challenging at times BUT it’s allowed me to build a whole range of skills that I can apply to everyday life, LONDON 2022 Marathon being the focus for the next few months.
Therefore training to run a marathon and being dyslexic have much in common!
