5 reasons why as a parent of dyslexics we don’t measure success by exam grades!

1. A grade is not a measure of effort.

There are way too many variables. The questions, the day, the environment, the anxiety, the quality of teach, the grade boundaries. So much they are not in control of that their effort in the lead up is invisible in a result.

2. An exam is not a real-life situation.

We know Dyslexic brains thrive in the real world. Where they can be curious, ask questions and talk! Time conditions in silence finest inspire a creative dyslexic mind!! Answering questions through application of literacy skill… everything a dyslexic struggles with!

3. Inconsistency is not failure.
Dyslexic brains are inconsistent, sally when having to complete literacy based tasks. That’s not a flaw. It’s reality and one bad exam on a day where dyslexia is worse, doesn’t cancel everything that came before it.

4. Their worth is not up for review on results day!

A number on a piece of paper is not the end game and will never define their worth or capability! I will not let my children feel like their potential is being judged based on what they could remember in a timed situation.

5. The goal is always to walk out of the exam knowing they are enough.

Results on exam day won’t change that, because they have life and skills and with outside of education! Academic education is for sure very important to us, but so as creating all around humans, who know their strengths, and contribute to the world and their community in a meaningful and positive way!
