When life gives you melons instead of lemons, initially you actually don’t know any different! You are blissfully unaware! You feel confident with what you have and just get on with life.
But then as life goes on you do notice that perhaps you don’t have what the person next to you has… LEMONS!
You question it a bit with yourself, but seem to be doing okay with your melon – so you continue, maybe a bit cautiously and maybe you don’t tell anyone you don’t have lemons, you keep that bit hidden!
Then one day someone asks you where your lemonade is?
You don’t know how to respond – because you never had lemons and had absolutely no idea that they made lemonade!
You are not sure how to respond…
So you try and change the subject… make yourself smaller and sit back and watch everyone else enjoying their lemonade…
Feeling embarrassed you hide your melon, and attempt to make melonade with it, to discover melon was just not supposed to be used that way and you don’t have the right ingredients or skills… so you fail!
So you decide you and your melon are no good for anything! You are ashamed and upset. You will never fit in or be successful because you don’t have lemons.
You hate yourself because you were never given lemons, and feel like you must have done something wrong… you blame yourself and just want to be invisible.
You slowly but surely isolate yourself from the people with lemons…
Then one day you come across a lemon and decide to taste it…
To discover it’s sour and bitter and not as you expected at all… in fact your melon is soooo much better because you know exactly how to deal with it and you don’t need to add anything to it for it to be delicious!
So you embrace your melon, having it for breakfast, a snack and dessert… and one day you decide to eat your melon in public!
And everyone is so in awe of what you created and the fact that it is different and delicious and that you have dealt with it on your own
You suddenly realise you should never have kept it hidden…
A melon isn’t a Lemon … although it has all the same letters… it was never meant to do the same thing.
Just like people all have faces, legs and arms… we were all meant to do different things and play to our strengths!
So next time you realised you have melons instead of lemons… embrace it… it was meant to be!
